Information We Collect

• Account information: if you create an account or sign in, we may store your email, display name, username, avatar URL, authentication provider, and provider user ID.
• Cat uploads: when you upload a cat photo, we process the image, store the approved upload, keep moderation status, and record the submitting IP address for abuse prevention.
• Ratings: when you rate a cat, we store the score, the photo ID, your IP address, and the rating time so duplicate ratings can be limited.
• Blog activity: if you submit a blog post, upload a cover image, like a post, or comment, we store that content and associate signed-in actions with your account.
• Device and usage data: we may receive technical data such as IP address, browser details, pages viewed, referring URLs, and performance data from hosting and analytics tools.
• Local browser data: your browser may store a local list of rated photos so the app can avoid showing the same photos repeatedly.

How We Use Information

• Operate cat ratings, uploads, blog posts, comments, likes, user profiles, and authentication.
• Prevent spam, duplicate voting, abusive uploads, excessive comments, and other misuse.
• Review and moderate submitted photos and blog posts before they appear publicly.
• Maintain site security, debug errors, measure performance, and understand aggregate usage.
• Prepare for the planned Meowspace account connection while keeping provider identities separate.

Public Content

• Approved cat photos, blog posts, cover images, usernames, display names, avatars, comments, rating summaries, and like/comment counts may be visible to other visitors.
• Do not upload photos, posts, or comments that contain private information you do not want shown publicly.

Third-Party Services

• Supabase provides authentication, including email/password sign-in and Google OAuth where enabled.
• Google may process information when you use Google sign-in. Google AdSense may also process cookie, device, and visit data if ads are enabled on the site.
• Cloudinary stores and delivers uploaded cat photos and blog images after image validation and optimization.
• Vercel hosts the app and provides analytics and speed insights. Hosting infrastructure may process server logs and technical request data.
• PostgreSQL and Prisma-backed database services store app records such as users, photos, ratings, posts, likes, and comments.

Cookies and Local Storage

• Supabase authentication can store session information in the browser so signed-in users stay signed in.
• The app uses local storage for rated photo history. You can clear this through your browser settings.
• Advertising, analytics, OAuth, and hosting providers may use cookies or similar technologies according to their own policies.

Retention

• Ratings and IP-based anti-abuse records may be kept as long as needed to preserve rating integrity and prevent repeated votes.
• Approved uploads, posts, comments, and profile data may remain until removed by moderation, deletion request, or normal app maintenance.
• Rejected or deleted content may remain in backups or provider logs for a limited period before routine deletion.

Your Choices

• You can choose not to upload photos, rate photos, comment, post, or create an account.
• You may request deletion of your uploaded content or account-associated content where deletion is technically and legally practical.
• Some records, such as aggregate rating integrity records, security logs, or backups, may not be immediately removable without affecting the service.

Children

• RateMyCat is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

• We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. The updated date on this page will reflect the latest version.
